'It is a time to thank God for our past,
celebrate our present
and plan for the future'

Sesquicentennial Events Begin Oct. 17

The parish Sesquicentennial celebration will kick off Saturday, Oct. 17 with Mass at 4 PM followed by a block party, Msgr. David Diamond announced. Parish priests, sisters and laity who have been associated with our community will be invited to the opening activities. "It is a time to thank God for our past, celebrate our present and plan for the future," Msgr. Diamond said.

The pastor also announced that families are invited to suggest a sesquicentennial motto that is "short and memorable, gives an impression of our parish community and reflects our past, present and future." Submissions should be sent to Mary Kate Guerin at maryguerin@gmail.com or dropped off at the Rectory by the first Sunday of Lent, Feb. 22. Msgr. Diamond added, "Make this a family project including words and design if you have an artistic flair. The motto will serve throughout the Sesquicentennial celebration appearing on stationery, banners and decorations as the symbol of our Parish."

Pope Francis: Rebel
Against a Culture That
Sees All as Temporary

"Today, there are those who say that marriage is out of fashion...They say that it is not worth making a life-long commitment, making a definitive decision, ‘forever’, because we do not know what tomorrow will bring. I ask you, instead, to be revolutionaries, I ask you to swim against the tide; yes, I am asking you to rebel against this culture that sees everything as temporary and that ultimately believes you are incapable of responsibility -- that believes you are incapable of true love."

-- Pope Francis at World Youth Day 2013
