SACRAMENTS

There are seven Sacraments of the Church which touch all the stages and all the important moments of Christian life:  they give birth and increase, healing and mission to the Christian's life of faith. There is thus a certain resemblance between the stages of natural life and the stages of the spiritual life.

Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation

Sacraments of Healing: Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick

Sacraments of Service: Holy Orders and Matrimony

HOLY ORDERS

Sacrament of Service

Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time: thus it is the sacrament of apostolic ministry. It includes three degrees: episcopate, presbyterate, and diaconate.

Those considering a call to the priesthood or diaconate may discuss this with the parish priests or deacon. For information call the Vocation Office for Diocesan Priesthood at 610-667-5778 or the Department of Permanent Deacons at 610-664-2213.
